Adopt a Madracis Decactis
“Ten-Ray Star” Coral Species

About Ten-Ray Star coral species:

Madracis decactis, commonly known as “ten-ray star” coral. Colonies are low and encrusting, with short stumpy nodules and short branches. Some colonies are encrusting only, with low, club-shaped nodules, irregular or flattened. Corallites have 10 septa that reach the columella.

This species of Madracis is darker in color than most, being greenish to brown, yellow-brown, or grey.

Life on Zoe:

Madracis decactis form encrusting nodules that might not seem aesthetic at first glance but a close-up on its charming corallite of a star shape is surprising. They are found in a variety of surfaces and particularly enjoy vertical surfaces, which is the case for our colonies on Zoe.

Fun fact:

These are important primary producers and also form a crucial symbiosis with reef-building corals. A single Madracis colony can host different species types with >30 symbiotic species.
