Adopt a Porites Divaricata
“Thin Finger” Coral Species
About Porites Divaricata coral species:
Branching colonies, which may cover up to 1 or 2 square meters, but usually, this species is found in small clumps. The branches of this species are more widely spaced and open than the two other branching Porites and frequently divide near their tips. Branches are slender and may be at right angles to their main stem.
Life on Zoe:
Porites divaricata or thin finger coral are part of the few branched coral we have now on Zoe. This particular specimen has been rescued from the ground where it was being covered with sediment. It is now living healthily on top of Zoe.
Fun Fact:
Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with the early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa, and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
